This World Is NOT My Home

This song brought tears to my eyes today during worship.

This World Is Not My Home

This world is not my home,
I'm just a passing thru.
My treasures are laid up
Some where beyond the blue;
The angels beckon me
From heaven's open door.

And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.
Oh Lord, You know
I have no friend like you,
If heaven's not my home
Then Lord what will I do;
The angels beckon me
From heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

They're all expecting me,
And that's one thing I know,
My Savior pardoned me
And now I onward go;
I know He'll take me thru
Tho I am weak and poor.

And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.
Oh Lord, You know
I have no friend like you,
If heaven's not my home
Then Lord what will I do;
The angels beckon me
From heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

Just up in glory land
We'll live eternally,
The saints on every hand
Are shouting victory,
Their song of sweetest praise
Drifts up from heaven's shore.

And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.
Oh Lord, You know
I have no friend like you,
If heaven's not my home
Then Lord what will I do;
The angels beckon me
From heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

Sometimes I get so disappointed in this world and in the people. I get upset, frustrated, confused and worried about this world we live in. The thing I need to remember is that this world is NOT my home. I am just passing thru here. I am SO thankful for that.

Mindy,
That song has such a special meaning to me too that I can't even sing it. After my grandma had been suffering from Alzheimer's for years, I was going through some of her things and found that she had written out the words to this song and hidden them when she was sick. She knew this world wasn't her home and something so much better was waiting for her after her illness. We had it sung at her funeral, and now it gets me every time! Thanks for sharing...

I love this song. Do you remember that it is one of Ryan's favorite songs? I think about him and his family every time we sing it. I Love You!

A beautiful song to remind us that we are just passing through. With all the violence everywhere, but especially lately in the Triangle, we need to be reminded that while we are here in this temporary home to try to make it the best we can for the generations to follow us through this "phase" of our lives.

Hymns do that to me too. I can't sing "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be" without crying. My daddy, your great-granddaddy, sung that song in ICU the day before he died. The nurse told me about him singing and what a pretty voice he had. Mother and I had gone to worship and daddy knew that so he was having his worship service. Special memory!
