In the book Crazy Love there is a chapter names Profile of the Obsessed. Here is a little bit of what it says...

Obsessed: To have the mind excessively preoccupied with a single emotion or topic.

The idea of holding back certainly did not come from Scripture.

The love for equals is a human thing.
The love for the less fortunate is a beautiful thing.
The love for the more fortunate is a rare thing.
The love for the enemy is God's love. It conquers the world.

People who are obsessed with Jesus give freely and openly, without censure. Obsessed people love those love those who hate them and who can never love them back.

A person who is obsessed with Jesus knows that the sin of pride is always a battle. Obsessed people know that you can never be "humble enough," and so they seek to make themselves less known and Christ more known. (Matthew 5:16)

People who are obsessed with Jesus do not consider service a burden. Obsessed people take joy in loving God by loving His people. (Matthew 13:44; John 15:8)

A person who is obsessed things about heaven frequently. Obsessed people orient their lives around eternity; they are not fixed only on what is here in front of them.

A person who is obsessed is characterized by committed, settled, passionate love for God, above and before every other thing and every other being.

People who are obsessed with God have an intimate relationship with Him. They are nourished by God's Word throughout the day because they know that forty minutes on Sunday is not enough to sustain them for a whole week, especially when they will encounter so many distractions and alternative messages.

A person who is obsessed with Jesus knows that the best thing he can do is be faithful to his Savior in every aspect of his life, continually saying "Thank You!" to God. An obsessed person knows there can never be intimacy if he is always trying to pay God back or work hard enough to be worthy/ He revels in his role as child and friend of God.

Saturday's Sign

When you see the curvy road sign you should think about:

Luke 3:5-6
The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. And all mankind will see God's salvation.

Something Beautiful

Have you ever sat in a room full of women you love, ages ranging from 24 to 74, and all shared your "own" scripture for your life right now? You know. THAT scripture that you think about often, that can get your thru your day, that may help you to take a deep breath. You know. That scripture!

Well, let me tell you... I experienced this on Wednesday.
And let me tell you something else...

Is it too soon?

Too soon to let the kids help with mowing the yard?
Too soon to let Hannah mow the grass herself?
Too soon to let Justus do the playing while Hannah is doing all the work?

Saturday's Sign

When you see the School Crossing sign think about:

3 John 1:4

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

Friday, May 21, 2010

Recently Hannah has happened to notice that at certain events there are people wearing "flowers on their shirt."

For example:
  • We had a Sunday where we honored our minister's 50 years of preaching and he wore a corsage. Hannah noticed and asked about it.
  • I was in charge of a wedding shower and, of course, our team got a corsage for the soon-to-be-wife. Hannah was there and noticed and asked about it.
  • She noticed in a picture of Chris and I at our wedding that Chris was wearing a corsage and asked about it.
One of the things that Chris and I have been trying to do with our children is use Bible words in every day life so that when they can read the Bible for themselves these words are not so foreign to them. For example we ask them to "obey" instead of "mind" us or we ask them to have "patience" instead of "waiting". SO, when I was trying to explain the corsage thing I chose to use the word honor and explain that it was that person's special day.

(( Of course, this means that when we went to a 1 year old's birthday party and I was explaining that it was HER day and not Hannah or Justus' day, she asked if the 1 year old would have a flower on her shirt... he he! ))

Anyway, I said all that to say that on Sunday when she put on her dress.....
She looked in the mirror, her eyes got big, and she asked "are you honoring me today?" :-) See the flower on her dress? Boy, she doesn't miss a thing, does she? Silly Girl!

Don't be surprised if she asks for a corsage at her birthday party since we will be honoring HER that day. :-)

Last Day of School

Well, I can't believe school is over for the year. It was a little sad. I will miss my class, I will miss taking the girls to school, I will miss having a routine. However, I know this summer will be fun!!

Remember THESE PICTURES from the first day of school?

Well, look at them now! They have grown up so much this year. They are so sweet!

Let Them Be Little

Have you heard this song?
If not, you should.

Let Them Be Little
by Billy Dean

I can remember when you fit in the palm of my hand.
You felt so good in it; no bigger than a minute.
How it amazes me you're changin' with every blink.
Faster than a flower blooms, they grow up all too soon.

So let them be little,
'Cause they're only that way for a while.
Give 'em hope, give them praise,
Give them love every day.
Let 'em cry, let 'em giggle,
Let 'em sleep in the middle,
Oh, but let them be little.

I never felt so much in one little tender touch.
I live for those kisses, your prayers an' your wishes.
An' now you're teachin' me how only a child can see.
Tonight, while we're on our knees, all I ask is:

Please, let them be little,
'Cause they're only that way for a while.
Give them hope, give them praise,
Give them love every day.
Let 'em cry, let 'em giggle,
Let 'em sleep in the middle,
Oh, but let them be little.

The so innocent, precious soul:
You turn around, an' it's time to let them go.

So let them be little,
'Cause they're only that way for a while.
Give them hope, give 'em praise,
Give them love every day.
Let 'em cry, let 'em giggle,
Let them sleep in the middle,
Oh, but let them be little.

Let them be little.
